RUANG RUPA - Jakarta, Indonesia

Ruangrupa is an artists’ initiative founded in the year 2000 by a group of Jakarta based artists. It is non-profit organization that focuses on supporting the development of art in the cultural context through research, study and documentation, along with intensive cooperation with the artists through exhibitions, artist residency program, art projects and workshops.

Ruang Rupa is enthusiastic about sharing different opinions; exploring and experimenting with artists’ interaction with Jakarta urban life.

Ruang Rupa works with a lot of other artists, in a horizontal structure to support and mediate fresh ideas. We are interested in cultural practice that is debating visual art and its relation with socio-cultural discourse, especially pertaining to Indonesian contemporary culture.
